Walmart announced a strategic investment in home energy company Base Power. The retailer also formed a partnership to sell Base Power's products. This collaboration will bring Base Power's home battery systems to customers. The rollout begins in Texas at Walmart and Sam's Club stores.
The initiative offers customers backup power solutions. It also helps lower energy costs. Starting in November, customers signing up at participating stores receive a 20% discount on the upfront installation fee. Base Power will own and maintain these systems. This reduces overall costs for homeowners compared to traditional backup power solutions.
Walmart aims to expand the program to other markets over time. The partnership allows the retailer to enter the expanding residential battery market. It also provides its customer base with access to more affordable and resilient energy options.
