Ford Motor Company launched lithium-iron phosphate (LFP) battery production at its BlueOval Battery Park in Michigan. This facility makes Ford one of the first automakers to manufacture LFP cells within the United States. The domestic supply chain initiative aims to reduce electric vehicle costs and increase competitiveness against low-priced rivals.

These LFP batteries will power Ford’s next-generation universal electric vehicle platform. A new midsize electric pickup will debut this platform in 2027. Ford licensed the necessary technology from Contemporary Amperex Technology Co. Ltd. (CATL). The Michigan plant will produce launch-ready battery cells by the end of 2026.
