Novelis has restarted its Oswego, New York hot mill following a nine-month shutdown. Two fires caused the prolonged closure of the facility. These incidents occurred in late 2025. The plant is the largest domestic supplier of aluminum sheet for the U.S. auto industry. It serves as a critical material source for Ford’s F-Series pickup trucks.
The outage resulted in an estimated $2 billion financial hit for Ford. The automaker was forced to source alternative aluminum from overseas and faced reduced F-150 inventory. Novelis is now ramping up production to ease constraints for Ford, GM, and Stellantis.
