Ford initiated a recall for 548,463 Expedition SUVs. These vehicles are in the United States from the 2018 to 2024 model years.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) identified an issue with chrome plating on the center console. This plating can bubble and peel over time. The defect creates sharp edges, posing a laceration risk to occupants.
A supplier manufactured the chrome trim using parameters that did not meet Ford's specifications. This prompted the recall.
Ford dealers will inspect affected center consoles. They will replace them if necessary. The service will be at no cost to owners.
