AB Volvo will construct a large-scale battery storage facility and energy test bed in Mariestad, Sweden.
The energy park will feature an initial capacity of approximately 70 MW/260 MWh. This project ranks as one of the largest battery storage installations in Sweden. The facility will become operational in 2027 using Volvo’s proprietary Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS).
The site sits near Volvo’s planned battery cell production plant, which begins operations after 2030. The facility will provide grid stability for a region with high industrial energy consumption. Volvo will use the park to develop and test new energy solutions for its customers. This initiative supports the company’s long-term decarbonization goals for transport and infrastructure.
