Westinghouse Electric Company announced a roughly $1 billion investment in a new advanced nuclear fuel factory at its existing Columbia Fuel Fabrication Facility in South Carolina. The factory will be among the first in the nation to produce Low Enriched Uranium Plus (LEU+) fuel at commercial scale, a critical component for next-generation nuclear reactors.

The investment is a private-sector commitment to rebuilding a secure domestic nuclear fuel supply chain. The Department of Energy has been investing in restoring U.S. uranium enrichment capabilities.

The project positions South Carolina as a hub for the nation’s advanced energy sector and supports long-term energy security objectives.
