TotalEnergies CEO Patrick Pouyanné and Mozambique’s President Daniel Chapo are at odds over the Mozambique LNG project. The French energy giant claims a $4.5 billion cost overrun stemming from the force majeure period between 2021 and 2025.
A UK-based audit commissioned by the Mozambican government found a significant portion of these extra costs to be unjustified. President Chapo reportedly refuses to amend the project plan to incorporate the disputed expenses.
The disagreement comes as project partners prepare for a funding call in the coming weeks. Resolving the revised development plan is now critical for the project to move forward.
