Germany rejected a request from TotalEnergies to surrender the license for its 1.5GW NordseeEnergies 2 (NSE2) offshore wind project. The German Economy Minister emphasized that concession awards represent binding commitments. This decision prevents the French energy giant from exiting the North Sea development.
TotalEnergies sought to relinquish the site following a strategic review of its German offshore wind portfolio. The company cited concerns over project delays and uncertainties regarding grid connection timelines.
TotalEnergies has submitted the permit application and made an initial payment to protect its license rights. The firm indicated it will seek compensation for the financial impacts caused by these delays.
