Spotify signed a licensing agreement with Merlin, a digital rights agency representing tens of thousands of independent labels. The move follows a similar deal with Universal Music Group announced in May 2026.
The tool will launch as a paid add-on for Premium subscribers. It allows users to create and share AI-generated remixes and covers from participating artists.
Artists must opt-in to participate and will receive compensation for their work. This ensures creators receive credit and a new revenue stream.
Spotify announced the partnership alongside its Q2 2026 earnings report. The company has now surpassed 300 million premium subscribers.
