Nvidia has reportedly directed its high-bandwidth memory (HBM) suppliers, including SK hynix, to use TSMC’s 3-nanometre process for the base dies in its next-generation custom HBM chips, known as NVHBM. The Seoul Economic Daily and Reuters reported the move, which would standardize a key component across memory providers for Nvidia’s future AI accelerators. It would also bring TSMC’s foundry process into SK hynix’s HBM manufacturing stage.

SK hynix shares fell sharply during the week of October 12–16 as AI-related stocks sold off broadly. Investors also faced concerns about intensifying competition from Chinese memory makers.

The company is benefiting from strong memory prices and supply shortages. However, concerns about the high cost of AI infrastructure investment and broader economic headwinds are weighing on the market.
