Saab announced on November 3, 2026, that it had developed and successfully flight-tested its own proprietary artificial intelligence (AI) agents in the Gripen E fighter aircraft. In simulated beyond-visual-range air combat, an AI agent independently controlled the aircraft.
The achievement marks a step in developing future fighter systems and demonstrates Saab’s ability to create, train and operate AI for complex military applications. Saab developed the agents in-house at its AI Fighter Pilot Academy, where they train through millions of simulated flight hours.
The technology is intended to support human pilots and be used in future unmanned aircraft platforms.
