Novo Nordisk announced Thursday that China’s National Medical Products Administration approved Wegovy for a new medical use.
The drug will treat metabolic dysfunction-associated steatohepatitis (MASH), a progressive and serious liver disease.
Wegovy is now the first and only GLP-1 receptor agonist approved for MASH in China.
This decision expands Wegovy’s reach beyond its existing weight management and cardiovascular health indications.
The approval provides a new treatment option for patients in the Chinese market to manage obesity-related complications.
