Clarifai purges 3M OkCupid photos and models, settling FTC privacy claims

Clarifai deleted approximately 3 million OkCupid user photos. The company also destroyed facial-recognition models trained on that data.

This action follows a U.S. Federal Trade Commission settlement with Match Group over privacy violations dating back to 2014. The FTC alleged OkCupid shared user photos, location data, and demographic information with Clarifai without consent.

This transfer violated OkCupid’s internal privacy policy. Clarifai’s founder reportedly requested the data informally from an OkCupid co-founder who served as a Clarifai investor.

The settlement prohibits Match Group from misrepresenting data practices for 20 years. The agreement includes no financial penalty.
