Bristol Myers Squibb announced positive results from the Phase 3 SUCCESSOR-2 trial for mezigdomide. The study evaluated the treatment for patients with relapsed or refractory multiple myeloma.
The company presented the data as a late-breaking story at the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) Annual Meeting.
Mezigdomide combined with carfilzomib and dexamethasone (MeziKd) reduced the risk of disease progression or death by 52%. This result compares the combination therapy against the standard care of carfilzomib and dexamethasone (Kd) alone.
The trial demonstrated a clinically meaningful and statistically significant improvement in progression-free survival for the mezigdomide group. This represents the first Phase 3 data for a cereblon E3 ligase modulation (CELMoD) therapy.
The findings support the potential for this new class of oral therapies to serve as a backbone for multiple myeloma treatment.
