Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) signed a long-term contract with Safran Aircraft Engines at the Farnborough International Airshow on July 22, 2026. HAL will produce superalloy turbine ring forgings for the CFM LEAP engine program at its Bengaluru facility.
The company also qualified the Dual-Rail Advanced Short Range Air-to-Air Missile (ASRAAM) Launcher for the Tejas Mk1A fighter. This hardware doubles the aircraft’s short-range missile capacity. The configuration frees up weapon stations for additional payloads to enhance combat effectiveness.
HAL expects to receive 20 to 22 GE F404 engines by December 2026. This supply will enable the delivery of the first Tejas Mk1A squadron by March 2027. The company targets an annual production capacity of 24 to 30 aircraft.
