Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd (HAL) is restarting Su-30MKI fighter jet production at its Nashik facility. The company will deliver 12 new aircraft by 2029 to replace units lost in accidents. HAL scheduled the first delivery for the 2027-28 period. The project follows an ₹11,000-crore order signed in December 2024. These new jets will feature over 50% indigenous content.
HAL is also planning a ₹60,000-crore upgrade for the existing Su-30MKI fleet. The Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) will support this comprehensive modernization. The upgrade includes new indigenous radars and electronic warfare systems. These enhancements will improve the aircraft's detection and engagement capabilities.
