YouTube will automatically detect and label videos containing significant photorealistic AI content. This policy shift ends the platform's previous reliance on voluntary disclosures from creators.
Labels will now appear in prominent positions directly below the video player or as overlays on Shorts. The system applies these labels even if a creator fails to disclose AI use, though creators may appeal labels they believe are incorrect.
Disclosures are permanent for videos created with YouTube’s generative AI tools, including Veo and Dream Screen. Labels are also mandatory for content containing C2PA metadata.
YouTube confirmed that these labels will not affect a video's eligibility for monetization. The automated labeling system will also have no impact on how the platform recommends content to viewers.
