Google DeepMind said four Gemini 4 Argon AI agents beat Minecraft without human intervention. In a randomly generated world, their sole objective was to defeat the Ender Dragon, which they did in 27 hours and 14 minutes.

The agents received no assigned roles, strategies or game-related tools. They divided tasks, shared information and warnings through chat, and recovered items from defeated teammates.

They wrote and ran 2,783 programs. The agents died a combined 605 times. The session cost an estimated $1,620, based on planned 2027 pricing for Gemini 4 Argon.

The experiment demonstrates long-term planning and autonomous collaboration by general-purpose AI agents.
