Google, owned by Alphabet, announced a US$15 billion investment in Malaysia, slated for 2027 and 2028, to expand its digital infrastructure. The investment will fund new data center campuses in Selangor and Negeri Sembilan, building on its recently operational facility at Elmina Business Park. The expansion aims to meet growing regional demand for AI and cloud services.

During construction, the initiative is expected to contribute an average of US$1.1 billion a year to Malaysia’s GDP. It is also expected to support more than 37,000 local jobs during construction. Once operational, the data centers are projected to sustain more than 9,000 jobs.

The plan includes programs to upskill approximately 800,000 Malaysians in AI and digital literacy by 2031. It also includes commitments to add more than one gigawatt of clean energy to the national grid and bolster local water security.
