Alphabet’s Google is partnering with Intersect Power to build the Meitner Energy Center in Gray and Roberts Counties, Texas. The project co-locates a new data center with a dedicated power source to support growing AI and cloud service demand. This integrated approach adds computing and energy capacity simultaneously to reduce strain on the local power grid.
The site will generate over one gigawatt of power from wind, solar, and battery storage. On-site gas will provide a small amount of supplemental power to ensure reliability. Advanced air-cooling technology will be used to minimize the data center's water consumption.
Google is building a residential hub for up to 3,500 workers to support the large-scale construction phase. The project is expected to create thousands of jobs.
