BYD is reassessing plans for an electric vehicle assembly plant in Tanjung Malim, Malaysia. Stalled negotiations with the government prompted the review of the Perak state project. The company initially announced the project in August 2025 as a completely knocked-down (CKD) assembly facility.

This reassessment introduces uncertainty into the company's Southeast Asian expansion strategy. BYD recently produced its 16 millionth new energy vehicle.

The automaker will unveil its flagship Sealion 08 SUV at the upcoming Beijing Auto Show. This launch supports the company's continued pursuit of aggressive global growth.
