BYD announced on October 19 that it plans to build an ultra-fast charging network in Jakarta, Indonesia. It will be the first deployment of the company’s advanced charging technology outside China.
The chargers will support speeds of up to 1,500 kW. Compatible vehicles will be able to charge from 10% to 97% in nine minutes. The project follows BYD’s ecosystem export model, which combines vehicles, batteries and charging infrastructure.
Alongside the network announcement, BYD introduced two models from its premium Denza brand: the D9 and Z9GT. Both are equipped with the second-generation Blade Battery, which is compatible with the new chargers.
The move puts BYD in direct competition with Southeast Asian EV makers and brands, including Hyundai and Kia, whose vehicles have significantly slower charging speeds. BYD plans to install the chargers at Denza showrooms initially, then expand to public networks.
