BP and its partners have launched the first commercial production of non-associated gas from the Azeri-Chirag-Gunashli (ACG) field in the Caspian Sea. This development expands the scope of the project, which has served as a major oil source for nearly 30 years.
Initial production flows from a well drilled through the existing West Chirag platform. The project targets deep gas resources located beneath the field's current oil reservoirs.
Recoverable gas reserves are estimated at 4 trillion cubic feet. Total potential reserves may reach 6 trillion cubic feet.
This phase provides critical data to appraise the field for future development. The transition positions ACG as an integrated oil and gas asset.
