BP appointed Ian Tyler as permanent chairman, effective immediately. Tyler has served as interim chairman since May 2026 and originally joined the board as a non-executive director in April 2025. He is the former chief executive of Balfour Beatty.
The appointment follows a period of leadership instability for the energy giant. Former chairman Albert Manifold was removed in May after serving eight months in the role. His dismissal followed serious concerns regarding his conduct, oversight, and governance.
Tyler’s permanent role aims to provide stability as the company navigates its strategy under CEO Meg O'Neill. O'Neill began her tenure as chief executive in April.
