BMW completes $1.7 billion U.S. expansion, targeting six EV models by 2030

BMW completed a $1.7 billion investment in its South Carolina operations to launch electric vehicle production. The project expanded the Spartanburg assembly plant and added a new high-voltage battery facility in Woodruff.

Production of the first U.S.-built all-electric BMW, the iX5, will begin in late 2026. The automaker plans to manufacture at least six fully electric models in the U.S. by 2030.

The Woodruff plant will supply batteries for these upcoming domestic electric vehicles. The Spartanburg facility can now assemble the new X5 with five different drivetrain options on a single line.
