On Tuesday, voters across Ohio approved local measures to ban or restrict new data center construction. At least 14 municipalities passed restrictions across 21 ballot initiatives.

The measures add to more than 125 existing local moratoriums on data centers in the state. Opposition is bipartisan, driven by concerns about the facilities’ strain on local power grids and water resources, as well as noise and rural land use.

In Trenton, voters approved a ban on data centers over 25 megawatts, with 80% support.
