Abbott Laboratories entered a global licensing agreement with ALZpath to develop blood-based tests for Alzheimer's disease. The partnership aims to increase the accessibility of testing for the neurodegenerative disorder.

These diagnostics will provide alternatives to invasive and expensive methods like spinal taps and brain scans. The collaboration focuses on developing a new assay for p-tau217, a key biomarker for Alzheimer's.

The tests will run on Abbott's ARCHITECT and Alinity i laboratory instrument systems. This initiative follows a broader industry push for simpler diagnostic tools as new treatments gain regulatory approval.
