Samsung Electronics held ₩214.8 trillion (approximately $157.5 billion) in cash and cash equivalents at the end of the third quarter. It became the first South Korean company to exceed ₩200 trillion in cash.
The total nearly doubled from ₩108.5 trillion in the same period a year earlier. The increase was driven by a boom in the AI memory chip market, which has led to record profits.
The cash position gives Samsung capacity for large-scale mergers and acquisitions and investment in future growth sectors. The company is also expected to increase shareholder returns, with plans for the year targeting up to ₩110 trillion through dividends and share buybacks.
The financial strength could help Samsung navigate market volatility while pursuing aggressive capital allocation.
