BYD surpassed Tesla to become the world's largest seller of fully electric vehicles in the second quarter of 2026. The Chinese manufacturer delivered 557,090 electric vehicles between April and June. Tesla reported 480,126 deliveries during the same period.

BYD's diverse model range and aggressive overseas expansion drove the sales increase. For the first half of 2026, BYD recorded 867,479 total electric vehicle sales. Tesla's cumulative sales for the same period reached 838,149 units.
