BYD will launch its first heavy-duty electric truck in Europe next year. The Chinese automaker announced the expansion at the IAA trade fair in Hanover, Germany.
The company aims to eventually manufacture all vehicles sold in the region at local facilities. This strategy seeks to bypass potential import tariffs and establish BYD as a European entity.
BYD is currently constructing a passenger car factory in Szeged, Hungary. Mass production at the Hungarian facility is scheduled to begin in 2025.
The company will offer fleet operators a service package including financing, solar-powered charging infrastructure, and workshop networks. This move intensifies competition for established European manufacturers and rivals like Tesla.
