Japan and the European Union convened their first defense industry dialogue in Brussels to reinforce industrial foundations. This private-sector-led initiative responds to a deteriorating global security climate by seeking closer strategic alignment.
The talks focus on improving equipment interoperability and enhancing supply chain resilience between the two partners. Over 40 companies participated in the event, including Subaru Corp., NEC Corp., and Sweden’s Saab AB.
The dialogue provides a platform for Japanese firms to expand dual-use technologies, such as advanced drones, into the EU market. Government representatives are expected to issue a joint statement prioritizing the strengthening of their shared defense industrial base.
