Huntington Ingalls Industries (HII) received a $336.1 million contract from the U.S. Navy for the future USS William J. Clinton (CVN 82). This award funds the advance procurement of long-lead materials for the next Gerald R. Ford-class nuclear-powered aircraft carrier.
Naval Sea Systems Command announced the undefinitized contract action to begin a major procurement phase for the warship. HII’s Newport News Shipbuilding division in Virginia will manage the construction and material acquisition.
Total costs for the carrier are estimated to range between $12 billion and $15 billion. The project supports the U.S. shipbuilding industrial base and its extensive supply chain. Work for this specific procurement phase is scheduled for completion by March 2039.
