Shares of International Money Express (Intermex, IMXI) fell 8% on Thursday amid uncertainty over its pending $500 million acquisition by Western Union (WU). The decline marked a third consecutive day of losses.

Announced in August 2025, the deal faces extended regulatory review in California. New York regulators approved the acquisition in August 2026. On the same day, California’s Department of Financial Protection and Innovation suspended its prior approval to conduct a further review.

Citi analysts pushed the expected closing date to November 10. They noted that Western Union is keen to finalize the transaction, but prolonged uncertainty prompted a cut to the price target for WU shares.

Intermex shares have fallen 25% over the past two weeks.
