Western Digital’s Singapore subsidiary agreed to purchase a manufacturing plant from Taiwanese display maker AU Optronics. The transaction totals S$350 million, or approximately $276 million. AU Optronics’ board approved the sale on September 2, 2026.

The sale aligns with AU Optronics’ strategy to transition toward an asset-light model by offloading non-core assets. Western Digital will use the facility to expand its manufacturing and R&D operations in Singapore.

The acquisition aims to integrate and strengthen the company’s Southeast Asian supply chain. The deal remains subject to local regulatory approvals before AU Optronics recognizes the final disposal gain.
