Volkswagen Group has partnered with Dutch chipmaker NXP Semiconductors to supply microcontrollers for its future software-defined vehicles. The agreement is intended to strengthen the automaker’s semiconductor supply chain resilience through a direct, long-term relationship with the chipmaker.
NXP’s chips will be a core component of the vehicle platform being developed by the joint venture between Volkswagen and Rivian. The architecture is planned for use across all Volkswagen Group brands and vehicle segments. The first vehicles featuring it are scheduled for release in 2027.
