Volkswagen Group has partnered with NXP Semiconductors, a leading automotive chip manufacturer. NXP will supply its S32K5 family of microcontrollers for Volkswagen’s upcoming software-defined vehicle (SDV) architecture, which is planned for use across all of the group’s brands and segments.
The partnership is part of Volkswagen’s strategy to build a more resilient, direct semiconductor supply chain. RV Tech, the joint venture between Volkswagen and Rivian, is developing the new vehicle architecture.
The first cars using the platform and NXP’s microcontroller technology are scheduled to launch in 2027.
