Micron Technology announced a strategic investment in Indium Corporation to expand U.S. processing of critical minerals used in advanced semiconductor manufacturing. The funding will help Indium upgrade its refining and manufacturing facilities in Rome, New York, strengthening the domestic supply of high-purity materials for memory chips.

The investment is part of Micron’s previously announced plan to invest up to $3 billion to secure reliable U.S. sources for key manufacturing inputs. A long-term supply agreement with Indium is intended to reduce Micron’s dependence on concentrated global refining capacity, which has been identified as a national security risk.

The move supports Micron’s plans to expand its U.S. fabrication and technology investments as demand for memory grows, driven by artificial intelligence. By extending its supply chain into raw materials, Micron aims to reduce risks to future U.S. semiconductor production. The effort also aligns with broader government and industry initiatives to strengthen domestic manufacturing.
