Alphabet’s Google entered a $12.2 billion agreement with Marvell Technology to secure custom silicon for its data centers. The partnership expands Google’s Tensor Processing Unit (TPU) ecosystem for AI workloads. This deal allows Google to diversify its chip supply chain beyond Broadcom.

Google maintains an option to purchase a major stake in Marvell under the agreement. The companies will co-develop AI inference accelerators, storage controllers, and network interface controllers. This shift toward in-house design optimizes hardware for specific AI-driven services. The move directly pressures the market positions of semiconductor leaders NVIDIA and Broadcom.
