Visa and Mastercard transactions will be suspended in Cuba starting June 6, 2026. Cuba's central bank announced the suspension. This followed a foreign banking partner ending its relationship with Fincimex, a Cuban military-linked company processing card transactions.

The central bank directly attributed the suspension to expanding U.S. sanctions imposed by the Trump administration. The move is expected to significantly impact Cuba's tourism-dependent economy by restricting a key source of foreign currency.

Travelers should rely on cash or alternative payment systems. Russia's Mir and China's UnionPay are expected to remain operational.
