United Microelectronics Corp. (UMC) reported second-quarter 2026 revenue of NT$68.73 billion, a 17% year-over-year increase. Net profit attributable to shareholders reached NT$42.26 billion, a 161% surge from the previous quarter. Factory utilization rates rose to 85% during the period. Robust demand from the communication and consumer electronics sectors drove the growth.
UMC expects capacity utilization to exceed 90% in the third quarter. Wafer shipments are projected to grow by a high-single-digit percentage. The company announced its first mass-produced shipment of 12-inch silicon photonics chips. UMC increased its 2026 capital expenditure budget to $2.0 billion to expand capacity for AI demand.
