Uber is launching Spain's first commercial robotaxi pilot program in Madrid. The company is collaborating with autonomous driving firm WeRide and fleet operator AVOMO for the rollout.
The service will begin operations later this year through the Uber app. This launch represents the first joint European entry for the Uber and WeRide partnership.
Initial vehicles will feature trained safety drivers. The partners plan to scale the fleet to hundreds of robotaxis. The ultimate goal is to provide fully driverless service in core urban areas.
Madrid marks the fourth of 15 cities planned under the global agreement. The expansion builds on existing commercial operations currently active in the Middle East.
