Australian law firm Slater and Gordon is investigating a potential class-action lawsuit against Uber over the safety of women passengers. The probe will assess whether Uber’s policies and systems adequately protected women from sexual assault, misconduct and harassment by drivers, and whether the company responded appropriately to complaints.
The investigation will examine driver screening, safety training and Uber’s handling of misconduct reports. It focuses on Uber’s role in passenger safety rather than claims against individual drivers.
Uber said safety is a core value and that it has invested significantly in protective measures. The company also called for regulatory changes to make it easier to deactivate drivers who threaten passenger safety.
The investigation follows numerous similar legal actions against Uber in the United States.
