Sembcorp Utilities received conditional approval from Singapore’s Energy Market Authority to import 300MW of renewable energy from Malaysia.
The project features a 2.2-gigawatt peak floating solar farm at the Linggiu Reservoir in Johor.
A battery energy storage system with up to 4.3 gigawatt-hours of capacity will support the installation.
Sembcorp is developing the initiative alongside Malaysian state-owned KPRJ Environment and Qua Energy.
Commercial operations are scheduled to begin in 2029 using subsea interconnectors.
The project aims to meet rising energy demand from data centers and AI-related industries in both nations.
