TotalEnergies and Eni are advancing the development of the Cronos natural gas field off the coast of Cyprus. The project is scheduled to begin supplying European markets by the first half of 2028.
This initiative marks the first time Europe will receive natural gas from eastern Mediterranean deposits. The project provides a strategic alternative to current imports following energy disruptions caused by conflicts in Ukraine and the Middle East.
The development plan involves constructing a pipeline from the Cronos field to Egypt’s Zohr gas deposit. The gas will be processed at an Egyptian facility and liquefied for final transport to Europe.
