TSMC is accelerating expansion to meet booming artificial intelligence chip demand. Deputy Co-COO Cliff Hou announced at Semicon Taiwan that the company nearly doubled quarterly equipment purchase projections since December.

The manufacturer is currently building and equipping approximately 20 factories globally. This volume represents a five-fold increase over its typical workload of four to five facilities.

Rapid expansion has triggered a shortage of skilled construction workers in Taiwan. The push reflects intense pressure from customers like NVIDIA and AMD to close the supply gap.
