Tesla has registered 42 automated vehicles for its Robotaxi service, according to Texas Department of Motor Vehicles filings.

In comparison, competitor Waymo has authorized 577 robotaxis for Texas operations.

This data emerged under a new Texas law that took effect on May 28, 2026. The statute requires commercial driverless operators to self-certify that fleets meet SAE Level 4 autonomy standards.

Tesla has operated its Robotaxi service in Texas since June 2025. The company has informed regulators that the majority of these vehicles feature Level 2 driver assistance systems.
