Tesla has canceled plans to produce and sell the Cybertruck in Australia, New Zealand and other right-hand-drive markets. The company cited challenges engineering a right-hand-drive version and meeting strict local design and size regulations.
Tesla has emailed customers who placed reservations as far back as 2019, saying their orders cannot be fulfilled and will be canceled. The company will automatically refund their $150 deposits within 30 days.
Affected customers who buy a new Model 3 or Model Y will be offered a free one-year subscription to Full Self-Driving (FSD) Supervised software. The decision leaves Cybertruck availability focused on left-hand-drive markets for the foreseeable future.
