Tesla expanded its unsupervised robotaxi service to the entire Austin metropolitan area on June 3. The company removed previous geographic restrictions to allow city-wide driverless ride-hailing. This update marks the fifth and most significant expansion since the program launched. Tesla currently operates a fleet of 20 to 50 active vehicles in the Austin area. The expansion demonstrates increased confidence in the company’s Full Self-Driving (FSD) technology. Tesla aims to scale this service into a major revenue stream to compete with rivals like Waymo.
