Tesla integrated its new two-seater, steering-wheel-free Cybercab into its Austin, Texas robotaxi service on September 3. Austin customers can now choose between the purpose-built Cybercab or existing modified Model Y vehicles.
This deployment advances Tesla’s long-term goal of operating a fully autonomous ride-hailing network. Tesla registered 45 Cybercabs with Texas authorities for the launch.
The new vehicles join an existing fleet of approximately 420 autonomous cars in the state. The launch follows the Cybercab’s concept unveiling in October 2024. Production of the vehicle began at Giga Texas in early 2026.
