The U.S. Department of Commerce granted T1 Energy a waiver from Section 232 tariffs on polysilicon and derived solar products. It allows the company to import up to 1.725 gigawatts of solar cells, helping keep manufacturing at its Dallas solar module facility running without interruption.
The waiver is a temporary bridge as T1 Energy builds its new 2.1 GW solar cell factory in Rockdale, Texas. The company requested the exemption to meet existing and expected customer demand. The new facility, G2_Austin, is expected to produce its first solar cells in the first quarter of 2027.
